As a commercial cleaning company in the UK, we take Health and Safety very seriously. We are committed to providing our customers with a clean and safe working environment, while ensuring that our employees are trained to handle any hazards that may arise during their work.
COSHH
The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) regulations are a key part of Health and Safety in the workplace, particularly for commercial cleaning companies. COSHH provides guidance on the handling, use, and storage of substances that may pose a risk to health.
Whilst the chemicals contained in the products that our employees use daily are not classed as hazardous and can be found on sale to the public, the frequency of which our cleaners use the chemicals is far greater than any member of the public. Due to the frequency of use, cleaners need to be trained how to handle these substances correctly for both their own and client’s safety and advised on how to use personal protective equipment (PPE) to protect them from any potential harm.
We also ensure that all our cleaning products are stored in a safe and secure manner, and that they are disposed of correctly in accordance with COSHH guidelines.
Training
Here at Solutions, before starting on any site employees are provided with information within a handbook which covers information on COSHH, manual handling, and lone working.
Supervisors will ensure all our employees are trained to use our cleaning products and equipment safely and efficiently, and that they are familiar with any potential hazards they may encounter on the job. This includes training on the proper use of PPE, as well as guidance on how to respond in the event of an emergency and how to use machinery safely.
Hazards
As a commercial cleaning company, we are aware that there are several hazards our employees may encounter on the job. These can include slip and trip hazards, electrical hazards, and exposure to chemical substances.
To ensure that our employees are protected from these hazards, we conduct risk assessments of all of the sites we clean. This allows us to identify any potential hazards and take appropriate measures to mitigate them.
We also ensure that our employees are advised on the appropriate dress code to protect them from any hazards they may encounter. This includes slip-resistant footwear, gloves, and eye protection, as well as any other PPE that may be necessary depending on the specific hazards present at a particular site.
Lone Working
Many cleaners work onsite after all other staff have left the building. It is important that employees know how to stay safe when lone working. In such cases employees should lock the buildings doors after entering and keep the keys about their person. They should be aware of all emergency exits. All lone working operatives are advised to have a fully working always charged mobile phone within reach.
Manual Handling
Cleaning is a physical labour and as such it is important to be aware of protecting cleaning operatives from injury. Whilst most cleaning tasks do not involve lifting particularly heavy items cleaners are on their feet all day and are bending and stretching to mop and dust etc. It is important that appropriate training and the correct equipment is provided to minimise the risk of any physical injury.
Insurance
Having the appropriate insurance is a business’s legal requirement, protects and provides peace of mind for all parties involved. A good insurance policy is an essential for any commercial cleaning company.
Solutions Services has a comprehensive Public and Employee liability insurance which covers all clients and their visitors as well as cleaning employees for claims relating to any damage to property or injury.
