As a commercial cleaning company servicing businesses throughout Warwickshire and surrounding areas, we take Health and Safety very seriously. We are committed to providing our customers with a clean and safe working environment and ensure our employees are trained to handle any hazards that may arise during their work.
COSHH
The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) regulations are a key part of Health and Safety in the workplace, particularly for commercial cleaning companies. COSHH provides guidance on the handling, use, and storage of substances that may pose a risk to health.
The chemicals in the products our employees use daily are not classed as hazardous and are readily on sale to the public. However, the frequency at which our cleaners use the chemicals is far greater than that of any member of the public. Due to this, we train our cleaners how to handle chemicals properly to ensure their safety and that of the clients. They are also advised on how to use personal protective equipment (PPE) to protect them against potential harm.
We store all cleaning products safely and securely and ensure they are disposed of in accordance with COSHH guidelines.
TRAINING
Here at Solutions, before starting on any site employees are provided with information within a handbook which covers information on COSHH, manual handling, and lone working.
Supervisors ensure all our employees are trained to use our cleaning products and equipment safely and efficiently, and that they are familiar with any potential hazards they may encounter on the job. This training includes the proper use of PPE, guidance on how to respond in emergencies and safe use of machinery.
HAZARDS
As a commercial cleaning company, we are aware that there are several hazards our employees may encounter on the job. These can include slip and trip hazards, electrical hazards, and exposure to chemical substances.
To protect our employees, we conduct risk assessments at all the sites we clean. This helps us identify potential hazards and take measures to mitigate them.
We also ensure that our employees receive advice on appropriate dress codes to protect them from hazards. Including slip-resistant footwear, gloves, eye protection, and any other PPE depending on the site’s specific hazards.
LONE WORKING
Many cleaners work onsite after all other staff have left the building. It is crucial employees know how to stay safe when lone working. Employees must lock the building doors after entering and keep the keys on their person. They should be aware of all emergency exits. All lone workers are advised to have a fully charged working mobile phone within reach.
MANUAL HANDLING
Cleaning is a physical labour, so it is important to protect cleaning operatives from injury. Whilst most cleaning tasks don’t involve lifting heavy items, cleaners spend long hours on their feet, bending and stretching to mop and dust etc. Therefore, we provide appropriate training and the correct equipment to minimise the risk of injury.
INSURANCE
Having the right insurance is a legal requirement for businesses. It protects and provides peace of mind for all parties involved. In fact, a good insurance policy is essential for any commercial cleaning company.
Solutions Services maintains comprehensive Public and Employee liability insurance, covering clients, their visitors and cleaning employees for claims related to property damage or injuries.
